We are happy to report that our homestudy was sent to USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) on June 19, so that is one hurdle out of the way. We are always glad when we get one more thing crossed off the list, which means less paperwork scattered on the office floor. Now we will wait for our I-171H approval from the MN office. We are told that has been taking about 45 days. So we will do some more waiting as we get our dossier finalized. The main thing is that we continue to make progress. We are still working on our dossier documents, but that is almost completed.
The preparations for adopting a child are different than preparing for a biological child, yet similar too. The obvious difference is that there is lots of paperwork involved. One similarity is that you still wonder what your child's personality will be like, what they'll look like, and what their interests will be. I remember wondering the same kind of things before Tyler was born. It's already been an emotional journey and we haven't even met him yet! Some days it doesn't seem quite real that this is happening, but I think all of this will seem more real to us when we start preparing our future son's room. If you would have told me 8 years ago that some day we would adopt a boy from Russia, I would have said, "No way." Well, guess what? Life doesn't always go the way you plan it.
We know that God has a child out there for our family and He is in control and knows the outcome. We find great peace in that. We've been waiting 5 years for our second biological child, so this has been good training ground on learning how to wait. If anyone has some good Bible verses that come to mind, please send them our way!
Merry Christmas!
